US-made bomb used by Israel to kill Nasrallah: US Senator!

A US Senator said yesterday, Sunday, that the bomb Israel used to kill Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut, Lebanon, was made in the United States.

Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli air strike in Beirut last Friday night. He had led Lebanon’s Shiite political party and armed organization Hezbollah for more than three decades.

Mark Kelly, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Airland Subcommittee, said in an interview with NBC yesterday that Israel used a 2,000-pound (900 kg) ‘Mark 84’ series bomb. This is a US-made guided weapon.

This is the first statement from a US official about the type of weapon used in the attack on Nasrallah.

Mark Kelly said, “We’re seeing increased use of guided weapons. We provide these weapons.”

The Israeli military said on Saturday that they killed Nasrallah by attacking Hezbollah’s central command headquarters in southern Beirut suburbs.

The Israeli military declined to comment on what type of weapon was used in the attack on Nasrallah.

No immediate comment was available from the Pentagon on this matter.

The US and Israel are long-standing close allies. The US is Israel’s largest arms supplier.
