7 killed including child in Russian attack on sports ground-residential building in Kharkiv!

Russian forces have attacked a sports ground and residential building in the north-eastern city of Kharkiv in Ukraine. At least seven people, including a child, have died in this incident.

Local officials say that a 14-year-old girl died in a Russian bomb attack on a sports ground in Kharkiv, a city bordering Russia.

At least 6 people have died in an attack on a 12-storey residential building in the city. At least 59 people have been injured.

In pictures taken after the attack, black smoke can be seen rising from the top of the residential building. The images also show fire service personnel evacuating people.

Yesterday Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, the head of Ukraine’s air force. This happened a few hours after these attacks in Kharkiv.

Kharkiv is Ukraine’s second-largest city. It is about 35 kilometers or 22 miles from the Russian border. Since the Russian forces started a full-scale war in Ukraine in February 2022, Kharkiv has been attacked at various times.

Regional head Oleh Synehubov said on the messaging app Telegram that at least 59 people were injured in the attack on the residential building in Kharkiv. This includes 9 children. The condition of 20 of the injured people is critical.

He says,

“The attack was launched from the Belgorod region of Russia across the border.”

President Zelensky alleges,

“Russia is attacking ‘ordinary people’ in his country.”

He says,

“If Ukraine could gain the capability to destroy Russian warplanes at Russian military bases, such attacks could be prevented.”

Zelensky says,

“This is a very logical necessity. There is no logical reason to limit Ukraine’s defense.”
